Yes. If a guaranteed FedEx or UPS shipment arrives even one minute after its delivery commitment, the shipper can request a refund or credit of the transportation charges. In 2026, the guarantee covers express and international air services only: FedEx overnight, FedEx 2Day A.M. and FedEx International Priority, plus UPS Next Day Air, UPS 2nd Day Air A.M. and UPS Worldwide Express. Ground services from both carriers are not guaranteed right now.
The catch is the clock. You generally have 15 days to file each claim, and the carriers won't flag late packages for you. For a business shipping hundreds or thousands of packages a week, that adds up to real money nobody collects.
This guide covers which services qualify in 2026, how the FedEx Money Back Guarantee and UPS Guaranteed Service Refund work, how to file a claim, and how to make late delivery refunds automatic.
The FedEx Money Back Guarantee refunds or credits your transportation charges when a covered shipment misses its delivery commitment. As of February 12, 2026, it covers these services for U.S. payors:
FedEx says the guarantee for all other services remains suspended until further notice. That includes FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery, standard FedEx 2Day and FedEx Express Saver. Watch the difference between 2Day and 2Day A.M.: only the A.M. service carries the guarantee.

UPS calls its version the UPS Service Guarantee, and the refund is often called a Guaranteed Service Refund (GSR). It is currently active for these services:
UPS says the guarantee remains suspended for all other UPS shipments and services. That means UPS Ground, UPS Ground Saver, standard 2nd Day Air and 3 Day Select do not qualify for a late delivery refund right now. Also note that UPS Next Day Air Saver's guaranteed time now runs to 11:59 p.m. on the guaranteed day, so a Saver package delivered in the evening is still on time.
UPS refund requests are generally due within 15 days of the scheduled delivery date, and the refund covers shipping charges only.

If you file claims yourself, here is the process for each late package:
That's five steps per package. Multiply that by every late overnight shipment in a busy month, and you can see why most businesses stop filing.
Carriers built the refund process for the occasional claim, not for a business shipping at volume. The usual reasons refunds go uncollected:
Peak season is when late deliveries rise and guarantee rules shift. Last year, FedEx suspended its Money Back Guarantee on December 1, 2025, restoring U.S. domestic express coverage on January 13, 2026 and international coverage on February 12, 2026. This season, FedEx has already extended morning delivery commitments by 90 minutes from November 23, 2026 to January 4, 2027. Check each carrier's service alerts before you rely on a guarantee in December, and file every eligible claim while coverage is in place.
ShipPlug turns late delivery refunds from a chore into something that just happens.
If your business ships $100k or more a year with FedEx or UPS, every late overnight package is a refund you're owed.

Yes, for guaranteed services. The FedEx Money Back Guarantee currently covers FedEx First Overnight, Priority Overnight, Standard Overnight, 2Day A.M. and International Priority services. You must request the refund within 15 calendar days of the invoice date.
Yes, for guaranteed services. The UPS Service Guarantee currently covers Next Day Air Early, Next Day Air, Next Day Air Saver, 2nd Day Air A.M. and Worldwide Express services. Requests are generally due within 15 days of the scheduled delivery date.
Partly. FedEx restored the guarantee for U.S. domestic express services in January 2026 and international services in February 2026. It remains suspended for FedEx Ground, Home Delivery, standard 2Day, Express Saver and all other services.
Not right now. Both carriers have suspended the guarantee for their ground services until further notice.
Any amount. A guaranteed package delivered even one minute after its commitment time can qualify, unless the delay falls under an exclusion like weather, an incorrect address or a regulatory hold.
Confirm the service was guaranteed and the package arrived after its commitment, then request a Guaranteed Service Refund through your UPS account or Billing Center within the claim window. Or use a service like ShipPlug to file claims automatically.
The shipping charges for that package. It does not cover the value of the goods or any other costs the delay caused.
Yes. ShipPlug connects to your FedEx and UPS accounts in under 3 minutes, then finds late guaranteed shipments and files refund claims for you automatically. There's no upfront cost, and you only pay when you get money back.
